In 2012, a unique patriotic project was launched in all branches of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools – research expeditions of local lore “Tugan elge tagzym”.

The project was developed by the autonomous educational organization “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” and is designed to form students’ interest in their native country and strengthen a sense of patriotism. Every year, the winners of the “Best Shanyrak of the Year” contest, selected for educational, creative, sports and other achievements, participate in expeditions from each Intellectual School.

A feature of the expedition is the exchange of routes between Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools for familiarization and research in the regions of Kazakhstan. The expeditions are organized in two directions: educational and research. Within the framework of the project, expedition groups visit the regions of the country, explore their flora and fauna, memorable places, historical significance, culture, innovative and industrial facilities, museums, educational institutions, architectural structures and much more.
During the expedition, students conduct observations, conduct interviews with residents of the regions, conduct population surveys, collect natural materials, meet with professors and scientists of universities, get acquainted with rare archival materials to expand the topic of their research.

Conducting a research expedition of local lore “Tugan elge tagzym” is result-oriented. During the expedition, students develop a number of skills and abilities – knowledge, awareness of the studied region (its past, present and future), skills of conducting research and interviews, selecting materials for use in practice, communication and teamwork skills, interaction in groups, physical and psychological endurance, experience in making independent decisions and actions.

According to the results of the expeditions, students submit research projects to network, republican contests of scientific projects. Over the years of the project, more than 100 routes have been developed. All materials on the expedition are on the LibGuides platform.
